What a Supplement Facts panel carries
A Supplement Facts panel is the nutrition information panel of a dietary supplement. It opens with the words Supplement Facts in bold, larger than every other line and as wide as the panel, inside the hairline box that holds the whole panel (21 CFR 101.36(e)(1) and (e)(2)). Under the title, Serving Size sits at the left, and Servings Per Container follows it unless the net quantity statement gives it (101.36(b)(1)(ii)). The amount heading and the % Daily Value heading sit on their own line under the heavy bar, with a light bar beneath them (101.36(e)(7)), and the dietary ingredients follow.
The panel has two parts. The (b)(2) dietary ingredients come first: calories, the macronutrients, then the vitamins and minerals, each with its amount and, where a Daily Value exists, its % Daily Value. A heavy bar closes that list. The other dietary ingredients come below it, with a symbol in the % Daily Value column and a footnote that explains the symbol (101.36(b)(3)). A proprietary blend keeps its ingredients together under its own name and total weight (101.36(c)). Other ingredients, the gelatin, water, cellulose and the like, print below the panel (101.36(d)), as in FDA’s examples. The regulation pages are on eCFR at 21 CFR 101.36, and FDA’s high-resolution examples show the nine layouts this supplement facts label maker starts from.
