Choose the Avery number on your pack (or Custom sheet for other brands), design the label and print the test page on plain paper at 100% or Actual size, never Fit to page. Hold it against a label sheet in front of a light: the outlines should sit on the labels.

If everything is shifted the same way, measure how far and enter it as the printer offset; the online label maker keeps it in this browser. Then print the sheet on labels. Use the printer’s label or heavy paper setting and the straightest paper path.

Cutting is never perfectly exact, so artwork that should reach the edge runs 1/8 in past the cut line (the bleed), and text and logos stay 1/8 in inside it (the safe area). Printers such as Sticker Mule ask for at least 1/16 in of bleed and 300 dpi images.

On sheet labels the bleed can only reach halfway to the next label, so labels that touch get none; the online label maker trims it for you and tells you when it does.

Measure the container. For a wrap-around label, the width is the distance around (diameter × 3.14) minus about 1/8 in for a gap between the ends, or plus 1/4 in for an overlap; the height is the straight part of the side minus about 1/8 in at the top and bottom.

For lids and fronts, round labels of 2, 2.5 or 3 in and rectangles of 2 × 3 or 2 × 4 in fit most jars and tins. Wrap a strip of paper around the container first to check.

In the US, a packaged product needs a clear name on the front and the net quantity in the bottom 30% of the front panel (on panels over 5 sq in), in both US and metric units, in bold type that grows with the size of the panel (21 CFR 101.7 for food, 701.13 for cosmetics, 16 CFR 500 for many household goods). The checks flag a net quantity that is too small, not bold or too high on the label.

Download the Cricut PNG: it is the label at 300 dpi, transparent outside the shape, so Design Space cuts around the outline. Cricut adds its own sensor marks and bleed; on Letter it can print and cut up to about 7.44 × 9.94 in.

For printers with a print and cut machine, turn on the cut line and download the PDF: the outline is a CutContour spot color on its own layer, the name Roland VersaWorks and similar software look for.
