How to use the address label template

Three steps put a return address on a full sheet, and this address label template checks the label as you go.

An address label template for the sender

The sheet, the small label and the repeat mode are chosen for a return address that goes on every parcel.

The exact 5160 grid

Avery 5160 compatible sheets hold 30 labels of 2.625 x 1 in, 3 columns and 10 rows, with columns 2.75 in apart and rows 1 in apart so the label edges meet. The same layout is sold as 5260, 5960, 8160 and 18160.

One address, 30 labels

The Same text mode repeats the block on every position, which is what a return address label template needs. The text is one element, so its font, size, alignment and color apply to the whole run, and a second line such as a phone number or a website moves with it.

A small block that stays readable

A 2.625 x 1 in label holds three short lines at about 8.5 pt, or two lines at 9 or 10 pt. The starter sets 8.5 pt type, the checks warn below 6 pt, and the safe area keeps the address off the label edge.

Print files and checks

The Sheet PDF is vector at actual size, the single label PDF and SVG outline the text, the PNG is 300 dpi and the Cricut file cuts around the label shape. The checks flag small text, a crowded barcode, a picture under 300 dpi or anything outside the safe area.

What an address label template is

An address label template is a page of labels laid out for a postal address, and this page fills a US Letter sheet with 30 small labels that repeat the same address. It is most often the sender’s return address: the block that tells a carrier or a recipient where a parcel came from, and that brings a lost item back.

The template is a working page, not a picture: the label maker lets you type the address, choose a font and color, add a barcode or a line of small text, and print or download the sheet. Nothing is uploaded, and the PDF, SVG and PNG files are free with no account.

The 5160 sheet: 30 labels of 2.625 x 1 in

Each label on the 5160 layout is 2.625 x 1 in (about 66.7 x 25.4 mm). Three columns and ten rows fill a US Letter page with 30 labels. The columns are 2.75 in apart, which leaves a 1/8 in gap between them, and the rows are 1 in apart, so neighbouring labels meet along their long edges.

The grid is centred: 3/16 in from the left and right page edges and 1/2 in from the top and bottom. The label corners have a 0.1 in radius. Avery numbers are compatibility names on this address labels template; the layout is made to fit the sheet, and packs sold as 5260, 5960, 8160 or 18160 share it.

Return address and recipient address

A return address is the sender’s address. A recipient address is where the item is going. On an envelope, the return address goes in the upper left corner and the recipient address in the centre; on a parcel, the return address usually goes in the upper left of the address side, and the carrier label carries the destination. The two blocks look alike, but they do different jobs and are read at different points in the journey.

This sheet is for the return address, which is the same on every parcel, so the design repeats one block 30 times. For the recipient side, use a sheet whose text changes per label, such as the shipping label template on a larger 4 x 2 in label with list mode, or type the destination on the carrier’s own label.

Laying out three or four short lines

A return address has three usual lines: the sender’s name, the street address with an apartment or suite, and the city, state and ZIP code. A fourth line for a phone number, a website or a short business name fits when the type is a little smaller. Use the two letter state abbreviation and the five digit ZIP code, and keep the lines short so nothing wraps.

On a 2.625 x 1 in label, the block is small: about 8.5 pt for three lines or 9 to 10 pt for two. Set the text in a clean sans serif, align it to the left or centre it, and keep a margin between the text and the edge. The label maker’s checks warn when text falls under 6 pt, and the preview shows the address at its printed size.

One address on every label: the Same mode

The Same text mode keeps one block on every label, which is exactly what a return address label template is for. A sheet of 30 covers a run of parcels, a stack of envelopes or a season of mail, and the saved design prints the same block again when the sheet runs out. Changing the font, size or color once changes all 30 labels, and the text stays one element rather than 30 copies that can drift apart.

For a second line that never changes, such as a phone number or an order reference, add another text element and leave it in Same mode. If the block itself changes per parcel, use List mode and paste one entry per label; a return address sheet usually does not need it.

Printing the sheet at actual size

Choose 100% or Actual size in the print dialog, never Fit to page or Scale to fit. A page scaled a few percent drifts further with every row and the last labels miss the paper. Print the test page on plain paper first: it draws the label outlines and a 1 in and 25 mm square, so you can hold it against a blank sheet and check the fit before using labels.

If the outlines are shifted the same way all over the sheet, measure the shift, enter the printer offset and print the test page again. The Sheet PDF is useful for a print shop or a second printer, and the preview and the PDF use the same layout numbers, so a sheet that fits on screen fits on the page.

Address label template FAQ

More questions? The Checks tab in the label maker explains every warning.

Open the address label template

What size is the address label template?

Each label is 2.625 x 1 in, with 30 labels on a US Letter sheet in 3 columns and 10 rows.

Which other sheet numbers fit this layout?

5260, 5960, 8160 and 18160 share the 2.625 x 1 in label and the same grid. Other brands can share the label size but use different margins, so measure those and choose Custom sheet.

Is a return address the same as the recipient address?

No. The return address is the sender’s, and the recipient address is where the item goes. This sheet prints the sender’s block on every label; the destination belongs on the carrier’s label or a sheet with list mode.

Can I put a different address on each label?

Yes. Set the address text to List and paste one block per entry. A return address sheet usually keeps one block, but a batch of destinations works the same way.

How many lines fit on a 2.625 x 1 in label?

Three short lines at about 8.5 pt, or two lines at 9 to 10 pt. Keep each line short, use the two letter state abbreviation and the five digit ZIP code.

How do I print the sheet at actual size?

Choose 100% or Actual size, not Fit to page, and print the test page on plain paper first. If the outlines are off, enter the printer offset and print the test again.

Is the address label template free?

Yes. The label maker, every sheet, the test page and the PDF, SVG, PNG and Cricut files are free, with no signup and no watermark. Only Design with AI uses credits.

Can I add a barcode or a logo?

Yes. Add a UPC-A, EAN-13, UPC-E, EAN-8, Code 128 or QR code, or upload a picture, and the checks warn when a barcode is too small or crowded or a picture prints under 300 dpi.

Does the page keep my address for next time?

The page keeps its own autosave in this browser, and the design can be saved to your account or as a project file. A visit to another label page does not replace this page’s saved design.

Is this page affiliated with Avery?

No. Avery is a trademark of its owner; this tool is not affiliated with Avery, and the 5160 layout is made to fit the sheet.
