Gift Tag Template: Print Gift Tags at Home

This gift tag template opens the free label maker on a 2 x 3.5 in tag with clipped corners and a 1/8 in string hole. It starts on the plain design, with To and From lines ready to write on, and the menu adds a holiday, a birthday and a thank you design. Type the names or write them by hand, print six tags on a Letter sheet, and cut them out with scissors or a Cricut.

Printable gift tags for every kind of present

The tag is a real shape with a hole and a cut line, not a rectangle with a picture on it, so the preview and the printed sheet match.

Four designs to start from

Plain gives To and From lines for any present. Holiday puts Merry Christmas in a script on deep green. Birthday sets Happy Birthday on a bright band over a light tag. Thank you sets the words in a script and leaves one ruled line for the name. Pick a design, then change the words, the colors or the size.

Three sizes for presents and favors

The 2 x 3.5 in tag is the usual gift tag and the first on the page. The 2 x 2 in tag suits a small box, a jar or a party favor, and the 2.5 x 4 in tag leaves room for a longer message. Every size keeps the hole centered and the safe margin around it, and the checks warn if a word comes too close to the punched edge.

To and From, typed or handwritten

Set the names on the tag before printing, or print the plain design and write them with a pen for a personal touch. Both look finished: the plain design leaves a wide ruled line beside each word, the holiday and birthday designs keep the same two lines under their greeting, and the thank you design leaves one line for a name.

A sheet that fits the page

The print panel fits the tags to the paper with 1/4 in margins and 1/8 in gaps. The 2 x 3.5 in tag prints 6 on Letter and 9 on A4, the 2 x 2 in tag prints 15 on either page, and the 2.5 x 4 in tag prints 6. The sheet PDF draws each tag’s outline and hole to cut and punch along.

The hole, the string and the ribbon

The 1/8 in string hole sits 1/4 in below the top edge, with the paper above it strong enough for a ribbon. The hole and the clipped corners are in the cut line, the sheet, the single tag PDF and the SVG. A larger hole and a different distance from the top are two fields away.

What a gift tag template adds to a present

A gift tag is the small card that carries a name and a few words on a present. It can be typed and printed with the gift tag template, or printed blank and written by hand, and printable gift tags turn a wrapped box into something that looks ready to give. The tag also keeps the card out of the wrapping paper, so the words stay readable.

The page starts from a finished looking tag rather than a blank square: To and From, a hole for the ribbon, and a design for the occasion. Replace the words, pick another size or design, and print a sheet. The gift tag template stays free, with no signup and no watermark.

Gift tags printable for holidays, birthdays, weddings and parties

The same tag works for many occasions. Holiday is a deep green tag with Merry Christmas in a script, for Christmas and winter gifts. Birthday puts Happy Birthday on a bright band, for a box of cupcakes or a child’s present. Thank you and plain cover weddings, showers, dinner parties and favors, where a simple name and a ribbon are enough.

Print gift tags printable for one event or several at once: the design menu switches the whole tag, and List mode puts a different name on each tag of a sheet. A batch of printable gift tags for a party favor table takes one print run, one cut and a bowl of ribbon.

Writing To and From by hand or typing the names

A handwritten name adds a personal touch, and the plain gift tag template is made for it: the ruled lines sit wide enough for a pen and stay clear of the hole. Print a sheet of plain tags and keep it with the wrapping paper, then write a name when the present is wrapped.

For a stack of presents or a firm’s client gifts, type the names in the label maker. The text is editable like any label, so a name can be set in a script, in capitals or in the same font on every tag, and To and From can become a short line such as “With love” or a wedding date. Add a text box on the To line and set it to List, and each tag on the sheet takes the next name.

Paper, string and ribbon for a gift tag

Card stock of about 250 to 350 gsm (roughly 90 to 130 lb cover) holds its shape on a ribbon and still cuts with scissors. A matte stock takes pen and printer ink well; a coated stock prints a deeper color. Print the gift tag template on the same stock as the card for a matched set. A full sheet of the holiday design, as in the picture, is six 2 x 3.5 in tags on one Letter sheet of card stock.

String, baker’s twine, satin ribbon or a thin cord all pass through the 1/8 in hole. Heavier ribbon needs a larger hole: the 2.5 x 4 in tag has a 3/16 in one, and any size is one field in the tag panel. A tag tied to a bag handle or a jar neck needs a longer loop than a flat box, so cut the string after the tag is in place.

Printing a sheet of gift tags at home

Print the gift tag template at 100% or Actual size, never Fit to page, or the tag comes out small and the hole moves on the sheet. A test print on plain paper shows the layout before the card stock goes in. The sheet PDF carries every tag on Letter or A4, with the outlines and holes drawn.

Let the ink dry before cutting, especially on coated stock. The 2 x 3.5 in tag prints 6 on Letter and 9 on A4; the 2 x 2 in tag prints 15 on either page, and the 2.5 x 4 in tag prints 6. A full sheet is the quickest way to keep a drawer of tags ready for the next present.

Cutting the tags with scissors or a Cricut

Scissors follow the printed outline and are all a few tags need. A craft knife and a steel rule give a straighter edge on a stack, and a punch the size of the hole (1/8 in, or 3/16 in on the 2.5 x 4 in tag) makes it clean. Round corners use the 1/8 in radius in the cut line; clipped corners use the 45 degree cut at the top.

A Cricut cuts the same outline from the Cricut PNG, hole included, so a batch for a party comes out identical. Cut a test tag first and check the hole and the size against the gift, then cut the rest of the sheet.

Designing the tag art with AI

The label maker has a Design with AI button, and the gift tag template uses it like any other label: describe the look, pick one to four results, and the AI works in two ways, keeping your layout and restyling it or painting the background art alone. With background art alone, a soft color field, a paper texture or a small illustration works well behind To and From: the words stay on top and stay editable.

AI artwork uses 10 credits an image, and the button shows the total before the run starts. The rest of the page is free: every design, size, sheet, PDF, SVG and PNG. Start from the gift tag template, place the names, then let the AI make the art behind them.

Open the gift tag template

What is a gift tag template?

A ready-made tag you can edit and print at home. This one opens on a 2 x 3.5 in tag with To and From lines, a string hole and clipped corners, and offers three more designs and two more sizes.

What size is a gift tag?

2 x 3.5 in is the usual size, about the size of a business card. The page also offers a 2 x 2 in tag for small gifts and favors and a 2.5 x 4 in tag for a longer message.

How many gift tags fit on one page?

Six 2 x 3.5 in tags on Letter and nine on A4 at the standard margins. The 2 x 2 in tag fits 15 on either page, and the 2.5 x 4 in tag fits 6.

Can I write the names by hand instead of typing them?

Yes. Print the plain design and write the names beside To and From with a pen; the ruled lines stay clear of the hole. The other designs can be printed blank too, or the names can be typed before printing.

What card stock should I use?

About 250 to 350 gsm (90 to 130 lb cover) holds its shape on a ribbon and still cuts with scissors. Matte stock takes a pen well; coated stock prints a deeper color.

How big is the hole, and where does it go?

A 1/8 in hole with its center 1/4 in below the top edge is common practice; the 2.5 x 4 in tag has a 3/16 in hole 5/16 in down, for ribbon. Both the diameter and the distance from the top can be changed in the tag panel.

Can I cut the tags on a Cricut?

Yes. The Cricut download is a PNG at the tag’s size, clear outside the outline and in the hole, for Cricut Print Then Cut, and the SVG carries the same outline, hole and cut corners as a cut line.

Can I design my own art for the tag?

Yes. Design with AI in the label maker makes artwork for the tag from a short description: it can restyle the whole tag, or paint background art alone, with the words and the hole left on top and editable. AI uses 10 credits an image.

Is the gift tag template free?

Yes. The label maker, every design, size, sheet and file are free, with no signup and no watermark. Only Design with AI uses credits.

Will my tag be saved for the next occasion?

The page keeps its own autosave in this browser, and the design can be saved to your account or as a project file. Another label page never replaces it.
