Measure the jar before you design custom jar labels
Custom jar labels start with a tape measure. A half pint mason jar stands about 4 in tall and measures 8.13 in around; a pint is about 5.13 in tall and 10.19 in around; a quart is about 6.5 in tall and 12 in around. The label goes on the straight part of the glass, below the shoulder and above the base, so measure that band rather than the whole jar.
The lid decides the round label. A regular mouth lid is 70 mm across and a wide mouth lid 86 mm, and the flat top inside the rim takes a 2 in or a 2.5 in round label with a little room to spare. On a gift jar, a 3 1/3 × 2 in oval reads like a classic preserve label and leaves the glass and the color of the food showing around it.
Then pick the type here and set your exact size. The front starts at 3 × 2 in with rounded corners, the large front at 4 × 3 1/3 in, and the wrap at 6 × 2 in, which goes most of the way round a half pint and leaves a gap at the back.
