A cube template made to your size

Most printable cube templates come in one or two fixed sizes. This one draws the net from your measurement, prints true and folds square.

7 glue tabs with 45° ends

Seven glue tabs that never collide

The net has a tab on every open edge of the side panels, seven in all, and both ends of each tab are cut at 45° and stop just short of the corner, so two tabs that meet under a lid lie side by side. The top and bottom keep clean edges.

Dice dots or numbers on the faces

Print a die: opposite faces add up to 7, and 1, 2 and 3 run counterclockwise around their corner, as on Western dice. Or print the numbers 1 to 6, or leave the faces blank for drawing.

Any size, with measurements

Type any edge length from about 1/4 in up. The paper cube template prints its dimensions along the edges, so you can check the size, and a 3D view shows the cube before you print.

How the template splits over Letter pages

At actual size the box takes 2 Letter pages to tape together, plus a page of folding steps.

Bigger cubes over several pages

One Letter or A4 page holds a cube net up to about 2.3 in. A 3 in cube takes two pages and a 4 in cube four; corner marks show where to tape them, and a 1 in square checks the scale.

A cube box that opens

Need a gift box rather than a closed cube? Switch to the reverse tuck end style: a cube box with a tuck at the top and bottom that you can open and close.

What is a cube template?

A cube template is the net of a cube: six squares joined edge to edge, laid flat so they fold into a cube. Teachers use it to show how a 3D shape unfolds, kids make dice and story cubes from it, and crafters turn it into gift boxes.

This cube template uses the most common net, the cross: four squares in a row with one square above and one below the second. Glue tabs on the open edges hold the cube together, so it stays closed without tape.

How many nets does a cube have?

A cube has 11 different nets (Wolfram MathWorld, "Cube"). Six have four squares in a row, three have rows of two, three and one squares, one is a staircase of pairs and one is two rows of three. Any other arrangement of six squares overlaps or leaves a face missing when you fold it.

The paper cube template here prints the cross, which folds most easily and is the one most worksheets use. All 11 nets are drawn below so a class can compare them.

How big is the net for a cube?

The cross is four edges wide plus a glue tab and three edges tall, so a 2 in cube needs a net of about 8.5 × 6 in. That is why one Letter or A4 page holds a cube up to about 2.3 in: beyond that, the net runs past the printable area of the page.

For a bigger cube, the printable cube template splits the net over pages: two for 3 in, four for 4 in. Tape the pages together along the corner marks before you cut, or print on 11 × 17 in paper at a copy shop.

How to fold a paper cube

Cut along the solid lines. Score every dashed line with a ruler and an empty ballpoint pen, then fold each one away from the printed side. Glue the long side tab inside the back panel to make a tube.

Fold the three tabs at the top in, put glue on them and press the top lid down; do the same at the bottom. Hold each face for a few seconds, or clip it, until the glue grabs. A glue stick works for card stock; white glue holds longer.

Cube net, 2 in

  1. 1Cut out and fold every dashed line

  2. 2Glue the side tab inside the back panel

  3. 3Fold the tabs in, close the top and bottom

  4. 4Press each lid onto its tabs

Best paper for a foldable cube template

Card stock makes a cube that keeps its shape. 65 lb cover (176 gsm) feeds through most home printers, and 80 lb (216 gsm) is stiffer if your printer accepts it; check the paper weights in its manual. Choose the same card stock in the board settings.

For a foldable cube template that kids can fold and unfold, leave the glue tabs off and tape the edges from the inside instead. Plain paper works for practice nets but crumples as a cube.

Dice, story cubes and other ideas

Turn on dice dots for a game die, or numbers for math practice. Leave the faces blank and let students write vocabulary words, story prompts or facts about a topic on each side before they fold the cube template.

A larger cube makes a photo cube or a desk calendar; a small one makes a party favor. If you need a box you can open, choose the tuck end style instead and the cube opens at the top.

Open the cube template

Is this cube template free?

Yes. Every size and option is free, with no signup and no watermark, and you can use the cubes in class, at home or in products you sell.

How do I make a paper cube?

Set the size, print the paper cube template at 100% on card stock, cut the solid lines, fold the dashed ones, glue the side tab into a tube, then glue the top and bottom onto their tabs.

What size cube fits on one page?

About 2.3 in on Letter or A4. The tool shows the exact limit and the page count; a 3 in cube takes two pages and a 4 in cube four.

Can I make a cube template with measurements?

Yes. The net prints the length of every edge along its sides, and the size is the edge length between the fold lines, in inches or millimeters.

How do I make a die from the template?

Choose Dice dots under Faces. Opposite faces add up to 7 and 1, 2 and 3 run counterclockwise, as on Western dice; numbers 1 to 6 are the other option.

Can I make it without glue?

Turn off the glue tabs and tape the edges from the inside. A cube without glue or tape needs interlocking flaps, which this cube template does not draw yet.

Is there a cube template for a box that opens?

Yes. Choose the reverse tuck end style: the cube box has a tuck at the top and bottom, so you can fill it and close it again.

Can I cut it with a Cricut?

Yes. Download the Cricut SVG, upload it to Design Space, set the score group to Score and attach the groups so the cube stays in one piece.

Is my cube saved?
