How to make a paper blind box from the template

A blind box template that fits what goes inside

Most printable blind box templates are a picture of a fixed size. This one is drawn from your measurements, so the box fits the figure, prints true and folds square.

Sized for the surprise inside

The mini blind box holds stickers, a charm or candy. The figure box fits a small vinyl figure up to about 2.25 in wide, and the tall box a tall, slim figure. Or type the inside size of anything else.

How the template splits over Letter pages

Prints at actual size, on as few pages as it can

The blind box template turns the page to fit and tells you the page count before you print: the mini fits one Letter or A4 page, the other two need two. Page 1 has 1 in and 25 mm squares to check the scale.

Fold it in 3D before you print

Watch the paper blind box fold from flat to closed, turn it with your mouse or finger and check which way the tucks go. The 3D view uses the same folds as the printed template.

Cut it on a Cricut or Silhouette

The Cricut SVG has one closed cut path and a separate group of score lines, at true size in inches. In Design Space set the score group to Score, and the machine creases the folds for you.

A drawer version with a sliding tray

Prefer to slide the surprise out? Switch the style to a drawer box: a tray in a sleeve, sized from the same inside measurements, with its own folding steps.

What is a blind box template?

A blind box is a small closed box sold without showing what is inside: you only find out which figure from the series you got when you open it, and some series hide a rare "secret" figure. Pop Mart made the format famous with figures such as Labubu.

A blind box template is the flat pattern of that box: the outline you cut, the lines you fold and the flaps that hold it shut. Crafters print a paper blind box template to make their own surprise boxes, fill them with paper toys, stickers or candy, and trade or gift them. This DIY blind box template draws the pattern from the size you need instead of a fixed picture.

How big should a blind box be?

Measure the item that goes inside: its width, its depth and its height. Add a little room on each side so it slides in, about 1/16 in for a snug fit or 1/8 in for something soft. Type those numbers as the inside size, and the blind box template adds the thickness of the card for you.

A box prints on one page only up to a point, because a tuck end box unfolds into a long strip. On Letter or A4, a square blind box fits on one page up to about 1.9 × 1.9 × 2.4 in inside; the tool shows the exact limit for your proportions. Bigger boxes print over two pages that you tape together along the marks.

Best paper for a paper blind box template

Use cover weight card stock. 65 lb cover (176 gsm, about 0.22 mm thick) folds cleanly and feeds through most home printers; HP lists card up to 200 g/m² for its OfficeJet Pro 9010, for example. 80 lb cover (216 gsm) makes a sturdier box if your printer accepts it, so check the paper weights in its manual first.

Plain printer paper is too thin to hold its shape. If it is all you have, print the blind box template, glue the sheet onto thin card from a cereal box and cut both together. Choose Card stock 65 lb in the board settings so the sizes allow for the paper.

How to print a blind box template at actual size

Download the print pages, open them and choose 100%, Actual size or No scaling in the print dialog, never Fit to page. Then measure the 1 in square and the 25 mm square on the first page: if either is off, the printer scaled the page.

A printable blind box template on two pages has corner marks at the edges of each tile. Trim one page along its marks, line it up with the next and tape the back before you cut out the box. Cut lines are solid and fold lines are dashed.

How to close a blind box so it stays shut

The template is a reverse tuck end box: the top closure folds over from the back and the bottom one from the front, and small slits lock each tuck behind its dust flaps. Close the bottom first, fill the box, then tuck the top in.

For a real blind box feel, seal the top with a round sticker or a strip of washi tape so nobody can peek, and make every box in the series the same size and color so they look alike from the outside.

Blind box ideas: what to put inside

Popular fillings are paper squishies, sticker sheets, mini figures, charms, erasers, candy and small notes. Wrap each item in tissue so it does not rattle, which also keeps the surprise.

Make a series: several items in matching boxes, one rare "secret" version and a small card that lists them all. Number the boxes on the bottom flap if you want to keep track of which is which.

What size is a blind box?

There is no standard size: a blind box is made to fit its figure. This template offers 1.75 × 1.75 × 2.25 in, 2.5 × 2.5 × 3.25 in and 3 × 2 × 4.5 in inside, and any size you type.

What paper should I use?

Cover weight card stock: 65 lb (176 gsm) feeds through most home printers, and 80 lb (216 gsm) is sturdier if your printer takes it. Plain paper is too thin to hold its shape.

Can I make a Labubu or Sanrio blind box?

The template makes the box in any size, blank. Labubu, Sanrio and Pop Mart characters and logos belong to their owners, so for anything you sell, decorate the box with your own art. This is not legal advice.

Can I add my design to the box?

Not inside the tool yet. Download the PDF or SVG and place your artwork on it in Canva, Illustrator or Inkscape, keeping text inside the dashed safe line. AI packaging design is coming to Pack AI Studio.
