Free Playing Card Box Template

Print a playing card box template that fits the deck you already have. Pick poker, bridge or tarot cards or type your own size, say how many cards the deck holds and how thick they are, and the box inside is worked out to hold the pile. A thumb notch lets a thumb reach the top card, and the template prints on Letter or A4 at 100% with every panel measured.

A playing card box template sized from your deck

Most card box templates online come in one size. This one starts from the cards you own and draws the tuck box around them, with the board thickness already in the panels.

54 cards 0.31 mm thick fill 16.74 mm of the box’s 18.24 mm inside width. The box inside is 65 × 18.2 × 90.4 mm, its faces to the front.

The deck sets the inside

In this playing card box template, the inside length is the card width plus the room you choose, the inside width is the deck thickness plus that room, and the inside depth is the card height plus the room. For a 54 card poker deck at 0.31 mm a card and 1.5 mm of room, that is 65.0 × 18.24 × 90.4 mm: enough for the cards and the paper lining around them.

Count × thickness54 × 0.31 mm = 16.74 mm
Measured deck17.2 mm

A ruler on the squared up deck gives the real thickness

Measure the deck once

Published figures for a single card run from about 0.17 mm to 0.33 mm, so count times thickness is a starting estimate. A ruler on the squared up deck gives the real number, and the measured thickness wins over the estimate. Measure once and every panel follows.

Poker, bridge and tarot

Poker cards are 2.5 × 3.5 in and bridge cards 2.25 × 3.5 in, so their boxes differ across the front. Tarot cards are 2.75 × 4.75 in and take a taller box. Pick one of the three or set a custom card size, and the box follows the cards.

One Letter page for the poker box

At 100% the poker box prints on one Letter or one A4 page of card stock. The bridge box does the same, and the taller tarot box takes two pages that line up with corner marks. The tool shows the page count before you print.

Thumb notch, 0.3 in radius, to draw the cards out

A thumb notch for drawing cards

Every preset has a half circle notch cut into the top of the front panel, 0.3 in in radius for the poker and bridge boxes and 0.35 in for tarot. A thumb reaches the top card and lifts the deck out, while the tuck still closes over the front.

Each panel’s size is printed on it

Sizes, layers and a Cricut file

The print pages show each panel’s name and size, so you can check the print with a ruler. The production PDF, SVG and DXF carry cut, crease, bleed and safe lines on their own layers, and the Cricut SVG keeps the box as one closed group with its score lines.

What size is a playing card box template?

A poker card is 2.5 × 3.5 in (63.5 × 88.9 mm), a bridge card 2.25 × 3.5 in (57.15 × 88.9 mm) and a tarot card 2.75 × 4.75 in (69.85 × 120.65 mm). A tuck box for a deck adds a little room to each of those: the card width becomes the front panel, the card height becomes the box height and the thickness of the deck becomes the side.

The three presets hold a 54 card poker deck, a 52 card bridge deck and a 78 card tarot deck, each with its own thumb notch. Sizes are inside, measured between the panels, so the cards sit with 1.5 mm of room by default. The figure compares the card size and the box inside.

How the deck sets the box inside

Stand the deck on its long edge and read three numbers: the card width, the card height and the thickness of the pile. A tuck end box uses them as its length, depth and width. Add the room and the inside is settled. The default room is 1.5 mm, enough for a thin lining and for the deck to slide in without pressing.

The estimate is the count times the thickness of one card, 0.31 mm by default, the thickness of common card stock. Published figures for a single card range from about 0.17 mm to 0.33 mm, and a deck of 54 at 310 gsm runs about 16.5 to 17.7 mm, so a measured deck is the sure number. The helper takes the measured deck when it is given and the estimate otherwise.

How a tuck box template folds

A reverse tuck end box is one blank. The front, bottom, back and top panels run in a strip, with a dust flap and a tuck on each end, and the side panels fold up between them. This tuck box template sizes every panel to the board you print on and keeps the thumb notch on the front.

Score every dashed line, glue the side seam into a tube, fold in the four dust flaps and tuck the top and the bottom. The bottom closes first, the deck slides in, and the top tuck closes over the front. The fold steps on the print pages show each move, and the 3D view plays the whole fold.

Printing a card box template at home

Print at 100%, at Actual size or No scaling, never Fit to page. The poker and bridge boxes print on one Letter or A4 page at 1:1, and the tarot box takes two pages that join at corner marks. Every panel with room for it prints its size in gray, and page 1 has a 1 in square to check the scale.

Use 65 lb cover card stock, about 176 gsm and 0.22 mm thick. It feeds through most home printers, folds cleanly and holds a deck of cards. For a stiffer box, choose 80 or 110 lb card stock in the board settings and every panel is drawn to its thickness.

How the template splits over Letter pages

At actual size the box takes 2 Letter pages to tape together, plus a page of folding steps.

Board, files and a Cricut card box template

The box opens on 65 lb card stock. Change the board to the card you have and the dieline moves with its caliper, so the inside stays the size the deck needs. The notes page of the PDF lists the board, the bleed and every allowance.

For home printing, download the print pages. For a print shop, the production PDF comes at 1:1 with spot colors and layers; SVG and DXF carry the same lines for a cutting table. The Cricut file keeps the box as one group with Cut and Score layers, so the card stock is scored and cut in one pass on a 12 × 12 in mat.

Is this playing card box template free?

Yes. Every card size, every file and the deck sizing helper are free, with no signup and no watermark. Save the box in this browser, in a project file or in a free account.

What size is a playing card box?

A tuck box for poker cards is about 2.56 × 0.75 × 3.56 in inside, for bridge cards 2.31 × 0.75 × 3.56 in and for tarot cards 2.81 × 1.1 × 4.81 in. All three are ready here, and any other size is a few fields away.

How big is a poker card?

2.5 × 3.5 in (63.5 × 88.9 mm). A bridge card is 2.25 × 3.5 in (57.15 × 88.9 mm), and a tarot card is 2.75 × 4.75 in (69.85 × 120.65 mm).

How do I size the box for my deck?

Open Size from the cards, pick the card size, set the number of cards and the card thickness, and press Use this size. For the most exact fit, measure the thickness of the whole deck and enter that instead: the measured number wins.

Why measure the whole deck?

One card is published at 0.17 mm to 0.33 mm depending on the stock, so count times thickness is a starting estimate. A ruler on the squared up deck gives the real thickness in seconds.

Is there room for a paper lining?

Yes. The room around the deck is 1.5 mm by default and you can raise it to 20 mm, so a thin lining, a folded rules sheet or a cloth bag fits beside the cards.

Does it print on one page?

The poker box prints on one Letter or one A4 page at 1:1, and so does the bridge box. The tarot box takes two pages with corner marks to join them.

Can I cut a card box template on a Cricut?

Yes. The Cricut SVG keeps the cut path and the score lines in one group, and the box fits a 12 × 12 in mat. Set the blue lines to Score in Design Space and attach the group.

What card stock should I use?

65 lb cover card stock, about 176 gsm, is the default and the easiest to fold by hand. 80 or 110 lb card stock makes a stiffer box: pick it in the board settings so the panels are sized for it.

Can I put a design on the box?

Yes. Add a box color, a name and a logo in the Design section, and they print with the template. For artwork across every panel, open the box in AI box design after a download; the dieline stays free and a design run uses credits.
