This model family is made by OpenAI. Pack AI Studio runs its 2.5 variants, Flare and Sunburst, through fal.ai, not version 2 itself, and is not affiliated with or endorsed by OpenAI. Image generation is part of the paid plans, and credits for a failed run come back. Check every word before you print.

The generator opens on Sunburst, the variant that holds finer detail. Three steps, and the button shows the credits before anything is charged.

What GPT Image does well

Text is the reason most people come looking for GPT Image 2, and its successor keeps that strength.

Small lines that stay readable

A brand, a product name, a net quantity and a tiny line such as "EST. 1962 · ROUTE 9" on one label. Put each line in quotes and check it at full size.

Layouts with many parts

A carton laid out flat with front, sides and back, or a box front with a corner badge and a burst. The model keeps the parts where you put them in the brief.

Type as the design

A wrapper set like a newspaper front page, with a masthead and a headline. When the words are the artwork, this is the model to start on.

You type

A burger wrapper printed like a vintage newspaper front page: a masthead, the tagline as the headline, columns of halftone burger and fries illustrations instead of body text, black ink on newsprint.

AI enhance writes

Flat print-ready burger wrapper artwork designed as a vintage newspaper front page, black ink on off-white aged newsprint, no mockup or photo. Across the top, a classic newspaper masthead lettered in bold black gothic type reads "THE DAILY BUN", with a thin rule beneath it. The headline below the masthead is the tagline "Extra! Extra! Double cheese." set in large heavy black newspaper headline type. The product name "Smash Burger Wrap" appears in smaller bold type as a secondary headline near the lower section. The body area is laid out in newspaper-style columns filled with halftone dot-screen illustrations of burgers, cheese slices, and fries in place of body text, with varied sizes and some illustrations overlapping column rules. Simple vintage engraving texture, slight grain and toner speckle, high contrast, monochrome black on cream paper tone. Wide horizontal wrap composition, even flat lighting, no color, no other text.

A short request becomes a full brief: layout, palette, type style and where each line sits. Quoted words and the text fields stay as you typed them.

GPT Image 2 and its successor, as of October 2026

GPT Image 2 is the OpenAI image model behind ChatGPT Images 2.0, released in April 2026. MacRumors reported it as OpenAI’s first image model with thinking, with better text in scripts such as Japanese, Korean, Chinese, Hindi and Bengali, and images up to 2K.

On September 8, 2026 OpenAI followed it with GPT Image 2.5 in two variants. fal’s model page sums them up: "Flare is the default for most work, at higher quality than GPT Image 2 with half the latency. Sunburst spends longer to hold intricate detail." Both cost the same. Wikipedia’s history of the model lists the same dates.

This page runs those two variants through fal.ai. It does not run version 2 itself, so if you need that exact model, use OpenAI’s own products or API. The name stays on this page because most people still search for the model by that name.

Flare or Sunburst: which one to pick

Start on Sunburst. It holds fine detail and small type: botanical drawings, many lines of small print or a layout you will look at closely. It usually takes 25 to 50 seconds here and costs the same as Flare, which is why every AI design page on Pack AI Studio starts on it.

Switch to Flare when speed matters more than detail: quick drafts, bold posters and simple labels, usually in 20 to 40 seconds. In our own test on October 9, 2026 it made a packaging design in about 25 seconds and printed "MOSS & CO" and "NET WT 4 OZ (113 g)" correctly.

GPT Image specs and credits on Pack AI Studio

Credits: 10 an image at 1K, 12 at 1.5K and 15 at 2K, 1 to 4 images a run, for either variant. Size: about 1, 2.4 or 4.2 megapixels; fal allows larger files, but 2K is the largest size we offer. Shapes: all 11 aspect ratios from 21:9 to 9:21, inside the model’s 3:1 limit. Quality is always set to high.

References: up to 4 images here, such as a logo or a product photo. fal accepts more, but each reference adds to the cost of a run, so we keep the number low and the price fixed. Output is one PNG per image, not a layered file.

Credits come with the plans on pricing. If a run fails, takes too long or an image is not made, its credits go back to your balance.

GPT Image compared with the other models here

Seedream 5.0 Pro (ByteDance) costs 11 credits at 1K or 1.5K and 22 at 2K, takes up to 10 references and is the pick for photo real materials and crowded layouts. Nano Banana 2.1 (Google) costs 8 or 11 credits, takes up to 10 references and is built for editing from photos; it has no 9:21. Muse Image (Meta) makes a 2 credit draft at one size, about 2.5 megapixels, and is best kept to short words.

So Flare and Sunburst are the default whenever text decides the job. Try the others on their own pages: Seedream 5.0, Nano Banana 2 and Muse Image.

Packaging text tips for GPT Image

Quote everything that must print, once. The text fields do this for the brand, product name, net quantity and tagline; for extra lines, put them in double quotes in the description, as in "ISSUE 02". Words outside quotes are a description the model may reword.

Write the net quantity the way it must appear. On US food packages it sits in the bottom 30% of the front panel in bold type (21 CFR 101.7) and gives both US and metric units (15 U.S.C. 1453), such as "NET WT 32 OZ (907 g)". The model copies what you type, so type it right.

Fewer, larger lines read better than a paragraph. Keep ingredient lists, Nutrition Facts and barcodes out of the image and build them exactly with our free nutrition label generator, food label maker and UPC barcode generator.

From the image to a printed box

Treat the PNG as artwork, then place it on a real dieline from our free dieline generator and keep text inside the safe area. To design a whole box on its dieline from the start, use AI packaging design, which sends the flat dieline to the model as a reference; Sunburst is its default model too.

GPT Image 2 questions

What people ask about the model, its successor and running it here.

Generate with GPT Image 2.5

Is this GPT Image 2?

No. This page runs Flare and Sunburst, the two variants of GPT Image 2.5, which OpenAI released on September 8, 2026 as the next version. The page keeps the older name because that is what most people search for.

What is the difference between GPT Image 2 and GPT Image 2.5?

The newer model comes in two variants. Flare is described as higher quality than version 2 at half the latency; Sunburst takes longer to hold fine detail.

When was GPT Image 2 released?

OpenAI released it as ChatGPT Images 2.0 in April 2026. Version 2.5 followed on September 8, 2026.

How many credits does an image cost here?

10 credits at 1K, 12 at 1.5K and 15 at 2K, the same for Flare and Sunburst. The button shows the total before you start.

Is GPT Image good at text?

It is the model we trust most with text, and it gets quoted words right most of the time. It can still slip on long or tiny lines, so check every word before you print.

Can I upload my own images?

Yes. Add up to 4 reference images with Flare or Sunburst, such as a logo or a product photo, or switch to another model for up to 10.

Is Pack AI Studio part of OpenAI?

No. GPT Image is made by OpenAI; we run its 2.5 variants through fal.ai with four other models, and we are not affiliated with or endorsed by OpenAI.

What content is not allowed?

No nudity, sexual content or gore, in prompts, uploads or results. Such requests are refused before any credits are charged.
