Pizza box design starts with the size of the box
Before you design a pizza box, check the size of the box you order. Pizza boxes are named by the pizza they hold, so a 12 in pizza goes in a 12 in box. The common square sizes are 10 in for a small pizza, 12 in for a medium, 14 in for a large, 16 in for an extra large and 18 in for a party pizza, and most boxes are about 2 in deep. Personal boxes for a single eater run 7 to 9 in.
Each lid here is a square panel at its box’s size, from 10 × 10 in to 18 × 18 in. The print file adds a 1/2 in bleed on every side, the bleed corrugated printers ask for, which also covers the small differences between one box maker’s measurements and the next. Every word stays 1/4 in inside the edges, clear of the folds where the lid turns down.
The front edge, where the box opens, is the bottom of the design, so the shop name reads upright when the box is set in front of a customer. Your pizza box design covers the top of the lid, the face everyone sees first, and the walls stay plain board, like this 16 in late-night delivery lid in full color.
