How long a commercial voice over should be
Radio and video ads come in fixed lengths, and a commercial voice over has to end before the spot does. At a natural pace the voices here read about 160 English words a minute: around 40 words for 15 seconds, 80 for 30 and 160 for 60. Chinese runs about 4.7 characters a second, Japanese 6.2 and Korean 5.3 syllables.
Leave a breath at the end: a second on a 15 second spot, two on a 30. The meter under the script counts numbers the way they are said ($19.99 is four words) and adds the pause a Chinese, Japanese or Korean comma takes, so the estimate holds for prices, dates and web addresses too.
If the script runs long, cut words rather than speed. Shorten it with AI opens the AI radio ad script generator with your script and length, and it writes three tighter versions with the brand and the call to action kept.
